Painting Fixtures

Painting fixtures adds unique detail to otherwise boring pieces in the home. Items such as lamp fixtures, sideboards, railings and much more can be touched up. It just takes a little time and some creativity to create a wonderful piece of art or just to touch up some dull trim.

When painting trim it can be a coordination of colors that already match the décor or it can be something that stands out from the rest of the design in a complimentary fashion. The common color to paint fixtures is traditional white, brown (if it is wood of some sort) or black. A more modern approach to trim is to paint it a color to correspond with the grand scheme of the design. For example if the room is painted in a grayish tone adding a blue trim brings out a mellow ambiance.

Tired of boring lamp fixtures? There is a way to turn that boring black iron on a lamp into a more unique fixture. Sand down the desired area to be painted and then rub it down, before painting over with a sealant. With little projects such as this it is important to use a sealant or other types of specialty paints. Most fixtures are not intended by the manufacturer to receive a new coat of paint. With out a sealer of finish the paint and all the hard work that was put into it will all be wasted. The paint will flake, chip or just rub off far more easily.

Spray paint many times can be used to touch up fixtures. Spray paint is very handy when it comes to painting small fixtures, especially if the fixture can be moved. The size of the fixture can create a bit of a challenge to paint with a regular brush. If not careful a regular brush can create spots in the fixture where the paint had not been able to get into the tight spots so to speak. A spray paint can cover the tricky parts of a fixture when it is being painted.

Painting fixtures does not have to be a daunting task. Nor does someone have to live with a boring fixture. With just a little creativity and some tender loving care the most boring fixture can be transformed into a beautiful work of art. The limits to painting fixtures lies only in one's imagination.
